Welcome to the website of Jan Morrison . . . . . . . an artist work spanned over 4 decades and included painting, wood-carving, stained glass, architectural and archaeological draughting, book illustration, ceramics and public art. And many other things inbetween. That work was put on hold in 2018 while she uncovered an early European gold-mining settlement that had flourished on the banks of the Arrow River, 1 km up from the township of Arrowtown in Central Otago in the South Island. Because noone else would. A blog was added on this website for friends and others interested to follow her as she teased history from the clutches of a ferocious blackberry thicket. It's called The Cooper's Terrace Project. Those ruins, comprising of an extensive garden wall, an unusual an impressive castle-like entrance way and to date, 9 huts, are now released from invasive vegetation, exposed stonework stabilised, and are presented to the public for the first time. The Project continues on in a minor role now, that of maintanece, weed-eating, spraying, looking after signage. Until Heritage NZ decides what to do with it.
